　　There was once a teacher in a village. His name was John Smith. He was a kind-hearted man， but he was always poor. He taught himself medicine， so sometimes people called him Doctor Smith.

　　One day a poor woman asked Mr. Smith to go and see her husband， because he was very ill and could not get up. Mr. Smith did so. He found that the family needed help very much. The man was out of work for a long time. He was just hungry because there was no food in the house. “Come to my room this evening，” said Mr. Smith to the woman， “I will give you some medicine for your husband.”

　　In the evening the woman came. Mr. Smith gave her a little paper box. “Here is the medicine，” he said. “Take it and it will do your husband a great deal of good. But don‘t open the box until you get home.” “What are the directions(指导) for taking it？” asked the woman. “You will find them inside of the box.” he answered.

　　When the woman reached home， she sat down by her husband’s side， and they opened the box. They found it was full of money. And on the money were the directions：

　　“TAKE IT WHEN YOU NEED IT.”
